An industrial piercing is two piercings, commonly upper cartilage or helix piercings connected by a single barbell. The piercing is not limited to just the upper cartilage though this placement is most common.

This piercing was first popularized (and named) by Erik Dakota in Body Play magazine #4 (1992), where it was pictured and titled, "industrial ear project."

~The Industrial piercing is a double perforation of the upper ear cartilage for the purpose of inserting and wearing a long piece of jewelry. Typically, two piercings are made, one fairly close to the head, the the second further down the cartilage

~Two separate piercings connected by one barbell. A similar piercing, in which a captive ring is used instead of a barbell; is called and "orbital." Most commonly placed at the helix of the ear.
