If you'd have given him your 5$ you'd be stranded. He could have been acting, trying to get some drug/booze money. You did your best! Most people would have done nothing for him at all. He was 2$ closer to his ticket, and you were one who helped...be happy, you tried!

I don't believe in giving money for anything of the sort. If someone needs something, if they truly want it and you truly want to give it, then you can get it for them. Money is too freely given nowadays and it isn't worth anything but the things it can buy. If he needed a bus ride, buy him a bus ride and give it to him. Obviously he didn't want the bus ride and is simply a thief and a shame of a man.
If this is a test of some kind, you should evaluate the multiple choice answers.
A: You gave him money to buy a bus ride to see his wife. (Obviously wrong)
B: You gave him money, which he may now use to buy alchohol or other drugs. (Possible)
If you were being tested, you could have just given him a reason to do something bad. Maybe he was the one being tested and you were simply the question.

Are you serious? You didn't give a crying old man your 5 dollars?! How hard would it have been to use Visa at the toll-booth...or even just get a voucher from the toll-guy.
Either way, if it was a test, remember that God owes you $2 when you die and meet him.

He was gone because you gave him money and he didn't expect for you to give him anything else.
He didn't disappear into thin air as if he was an angel, if that's what you're implying.
As for whether it was a test... Why would your God need to "test" you if he is "omniscient?" Doesn't that defeat the purpose? He already knows what you would do.

A test? No.
I think that what you did was very charitable. Regardless of what he actually does with the money (anyone who asks for money of you while you're sitting in a car is lying about whatever story they tell you), your actions were honorable.

God sends many people into our lives... for just a moment... things like that have happened to me too.... We sometimes have only 1 chance to be Jesus to other people... sounds like you blessed this man by being Jesus to him!
