I'm 21 years old and my gums have started to receed on my bottom front 4 teeth. What is the treatment for this? And I thought it was something that happened when you got older?

lack of flossing but also dont brush to hard that can hurt your teeth and your gums. my gums receeded due to lack of flossing the easiest way to explain it is the bacteria get down in between the teeth and gums and sorta push the gums away. Start flossing properly if you dont already and get your pearly whites cleaned as soon as possible and every 6 months after that.

flossing is a BIG one. your gums will naturally start to recede SLIGHTLY as you get older, and especially if you had treatment on the teeth donw like a filling or a crown - those are the number one places where gums will start receding. It is NORMAL, do not freak out. See a dentist if you are still worried, obviously I have not seen your particular problem so I cant tell you for sure - but if there is nothing extraordinary going on and just SLIGHT recession then you should be fine. its normal

OK my cousin has this answer, he's a dentist....start flossing and brushing regularly. daily flossing is you best bet.
My cousin rode my Butt for about a year about flossing and I am now a believer I have healthy gums and teeth. I am 50 and have all but one of the original pearly whites....I broke that one out when I went head first into a stair well....

Apparently heredity can play a part in some dental problems. I have periodontal disease and when my doctor looked at my x-rays he was astounded at the bone loss i had at my age (late 20's). I had to get root planing and scaling and i have to go back in two months.

You may want to get to a dentist if you can asap to make sure you don't have more problems that just the receding gums. Sadly my children (whenever I have them) will always be at the dentist to ensure againist their grandfather's bad genes.
