My 2.5 year old daughter has not shown any interest in potty training. She currently wears pullups and we've tried big girl undies which she likes to wear, but will stay in when she's wet. How do I get her interested in using the potty (besides the Elmo dvd, musical potty chair, and everyone poops book), and what's the best method in getting her trained? I NEED her to be trained by the fall because she'll be starting preschool.

Maybe her disinterest is because you are making a big deal out of it? If children arent ready they can feel pressured and become stubborn or stressed. If she picks up on your anxiety she will associate potty training with negativity rather than a step forward. I would give it a break for a while then start trying again later. Go with her cues and let her take it all in her own time. 2.5 isnt old to still be in nappies, i bet if you forget all about it for a few weeks she will show more interest. Autumn is still ages away and when a child decides to potty train for themselves they usually pick it up really quickly. good luck x

put her in panties and take her every hour and make her sit there on the potty for five minutes if she goes praise her if not watch her like a hawk.if you know how she acts when she is going in her pull up rush her straight to the potty when you see her squat or something. she will do it when ready. put big girl panties on her and watch her closely. this worked with my son at 3 and a half. also remind her that she cant go to school unless she used the potty

We were lucky with our daughter. We didn't force her to do what she wasn't ready for, but we read her several books and discussed it with her for a couple of weeks prior to trying. She got tired of her pullups- then we explained that if she wanted to be a big girl, she needed to use the toilet. It took us about 1 week with maybe 2-3 accidents the whole time. It was SOOO easy!
