A date is when you spend time together with someone, doing things you both enjoy.
It doesn't have to be romantic.
It's still a date even if there's no kissing if it's with a person you are attracted to.

So far, my most memorable date has been with my bf. We had lunch at the beach, went up the coast to observe animals on the beach, walked on a large ranch, took photos of nature scenes.
We held hands, put arms around each other, and at the end shared several very delightful kisses.

Date 2 was candlelight dinner and a movie on DVD. Followed by romance.

They keep getting better, but the first one is best so far.

A "date" is going out with someone. You don't have to kiss them, or have sex, or even have a good time with them... hence the horrible date stories you hear!

Just because you went on a date, doesn't mean your exclusive or "boyfriend and girlfriend" though.
