Zoloft can be a miracle for some people or a nightmare for others and your reaction clearly indicates that it isn't the best choice for you. If you are receiving it from a primary care physician, please contact a psychiatrist and tell them clearly of your reaction as they will be in the best position to know what class of anti-depressant to try next and to evaluate whether you may be experiencing a drug induced hypomania. A primary really cannot accurately evaluate this potential risk.

It sounds as it isn't the right pill for you. I would definitely suggest talking to your dr or psychiatrist. Different pills work for different people. This one doesn't seem to be working for you at all. If it was just bad side effects I'd suggest you stay on it for a bit longer, because most anti-depressants take 4-8 weeks to work properly, and before they do, you usally get alot of side effects. The side effects usually lessen as the pills start to work.
But what you are experiencing seems alot worse than just side-effects and it clearly doesn't seem to be helping at all. If you are having suicidal thoughts its definitely time to talk to your dr.
Trust me, with a good dr. and willingness to try, you should be able to find a pill to work well with you. In the meantime, exercising is a very helpful thing to do. I know it's the last thing you probably feel like doing it, but it releases the same neurotrasmitters anti-depressants do, and can help you feel a little better in the short term. Same with getting out in the sun (and eating chocolate, but that's probably not the best option!).
Please see a dr. Don't suffer in silence, it isn't worth it, when you could be on a different pill, and hopefully feeling better. I'd also suggest therapy along with the anti-depressants, because it can help you deal with other issues that could also be causing your depression.

So many people don't understand their own bodies and that is a damn shame...
Try an aruyvedic practitioner and/or go to an Endocrinologist to see what elements or hormones are out of balance in your body and a nutritionist to make sure you are eating well and hydrated and make sure you get enough sleep.
All of these things effect your serotonin and dopamine levels and can cause all of the symptoms you are experiencing.
First thing I tell everyone is to completely cut out caffeine. No coffee, no soda... Drink things containing Vitamin C for energy and take supplements like your B vitamins. They give you energy and level your mood.
Have you ever asked your Doctor is you could try taking Cyanocabalamin? Or B12 shots?
Try that... If it doesn't work, THEN take psych meds...
They should only be used short term and they should only be used as a last resort...

OK immediately call the suicide hot line, they will help you. Call the doctor who prescribed the Zoloft. Tell them when you call you are suicidal. Do whatever they tell you, you are no longer in control and you don't have to be there are people who spent many years training for your special situation. There are diagnoses for these ups and downs. A home you can find and a job you will be much better at after stabilization. Please hear me I am a former psychiatric social worker. And I am on meds for depression/mood swings/and anxiety-I lived 52 yrs without meds. Things happen that are out of our control.

My Dr. started ME on Zoloft about two weeks ago.Your post scares the hell out of me !! I Already lay in bed, think about how I have messed up my life, and everyone of the opposite sex for the past 30yrs.I'm not suicidal, but I do pray for cancer,or wish I could just get sick, and get off of this earth!
I'm also on very strong pain medicine from a spine injury I sustained from a motorcycle accident I had in May of 05.I have to admit,as I have to my Dr,the pain medicine works better to help my depression than ANYTHING I have tried.(Lexapro,Cymbalta...few others,I can't remember. They do nothing!
Tell your MD what you are experencing. The way it sounds,he MAY want to put you in inpatient for a couple,or three weeks.Hell,Even as him to.You would be able to talk to someone with simular probs through groups etc. I Wish You The best!

I was on Zoloft for around 2 years. I found it to take the edge off of what ever feeling I was having but the root of the problem must be addressed. Our General Practacing Doctors are not specialists. Go to your doctor tell him how you are feeling.
However did you follow the directions on your meds? Did you take them when you were suppose to? It does take awhile for Zoloft to get into your system. It is not like turning on or off a light. You will notice the difference slowly.
But TALK to YOUR DOCTOR!!

Go back to your doctor. Anti-depressants CAN actually make depression worse in a lot of cases, and you wonder why you aren't feeling better, which makes the whole situation worse. Zoloft might not be best medication for you. You might have to try a few different brands before you find something that works.
There's a bit more information here from the FDA:
http://www.fda.gov/cder/drug/antidepressants/AntidepressanstPHA.htm
Good luck! I hope you find something that works for you!

OMG! Zoloft is the worst. My Mom became ill and the doctor put her on Zoloft and after a week on it she tried to committ suicide. Once she was off she was a different person! And also my Dad took it and became terribly depressed and had to be admitted to a hospital. Talk to your doctor - there are other medications you can take.

the dosage may be wrong or zoloft just isn't for you, talk to your doctor immediately and explain exactly how you're feeling.
if they don't have any available appointments any time soon with your doc, tell the receptionist it's an emergency and give him/her your symptoms, informing them you've been having thoughts of suicide.
if you feeling overwhelmed and you don't know what to do or say call 911 or get yourself to an emergency room. there's help out there. don't give up.

Girl.. You really need to go talk to someone. If I where in your shoes I would FIND A WAY to stay off meds. You can do it, you just need some support from others. I would reccommend you go to a Psycologists. They DO NOT perscribe meds and they are more into really digging into you and getting to the problem. You need to right now at the very moment believe in yourself and believe that you ARE in control. If you don't believe you are then you will NOT be in control. What EVER YOU believe becomes reality. If you think you are crazy, you will be crazy. If you think you are stupid, then that what you will be.. Good LUCK!! Believe!!!!
