Cornwall is brilliant, especially if you have young kids, but if you are thinking of going during the summer holidays be prepared to take out a second mortgage. The prices at that time of year are obscene. Also, a car is a must.

Go to York and the surrounding area. You are MUCH to late to stay in Cornwall during Summer 2007 - all the cheaper places were booked in 2006.

Go for Cornwall then. Outdoor activity would depend if you fancy coastal, rural, forest, etc. Centre Parcs are good for outdoor activities.
