My cat had her kittens about 10 days ago, 1 in particular is a little weaker than the rest. The mother cat has moved her a couple of times to be alone with her. I found the kitten in the middle of the floor this morning. Is the mother cat trying to push her away. Should I be concerned! Please help.

absolutly!

My mother breads persian cats and has been for years. Becuase they have only a certain ammount of milk she may be keeping it for the others. You will need a kitty bottle and formula. Should feed it a few times a daya nd hopefully around an ounce at a time.

If the mom cat trusts you to toucha nd play with her kittens you should get a large container with some towells and pull them away from her all at the same time. The other kitties will not reject the one.

THis ways he still gets bonding time. It really also depends how extreme she is treating the kitty. Kittys can not use the bathroom on there own. The mom cat helps them, you need to make sure she is doing this or it can have other problems.

there are tons of books out there about this sort of thing. Any vet will be able to help you out as well so you can better go into depth on what is happening.

hope i helped :)

This could be a cause for concern. Sometimes, if there is a kitten failing to thrive, the mom won't continue to put effort into keeping it alive. There is a kitten formula you can buy, ask you vet. You'll need to feed it every few hours (just watch mom for scheduling). You'll also have to stimulate the bladder to make certain it's actually peeing. Kittens can't go pee without that stimulation until they're about 4 weeks old.

Now, having said all that... When you found the kitten in the middle of the floor, what were it and mom doing? Was the kitten crying, asking for mom to come find her? Was mom pointedly ignoring her, meowing back, nursing? Was the kitten sitting quietly, not doing anything? If the kitten was mewing, that's a good sign. If mom was meowing back, that's also a good sign. Mom was telling the kitten where she was so the kitten could go to her. If mom was nursing, it could be that the other kittens were mewoing and mom needed to rush off to see what was wrong with them (the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one)

If the kitten was just sitting there, not making any noise, it could be that it is too weak to be concerned/scared.

You can email, if you want...

It all depends on the mother cat. Is this her first litter? You also don't say how many kittens she is looking after. There may be something wrong with this kitten and the momma cat knows it. This is what would happen in the wild or she is new at this and can't provide for that many kittens and has pulled out the weakest one as the one to go. I would call your vet and see what they think. If this continues, you may have to feed the kitten separately and then put it back in with it's littermates. The additional feeding that you provide may be enough for the kitten to survive in this environment. You will have to check on the kitten hourly as at this age they can't be away from their moms body heat for very long...so do know that if you decide to this, you have a couple of weeks of a lot of work.

Another suggestion is to call the Humane Society and see if they have a mother cat that has had just a couple of kittens and try to integrate this one in. Sometimes that works really well.

Good luck with your kittens!

Many times this is a sign that the mother cat is pushing a kitten away. Perhaps she senses that there is something wrong with the kitten. If I were you, I would take the little guy to the vet and have them check him over. Tell the vet what the mother cat is doing with it. They may recommend that you bottle feed him, and if so, they can set you up with the milk and supplies to do that. Yes, you are right to be concerned. The sooner you have the kitten checked, the better! Good luck! =)

You should probably take the weaker kitten to the vet. It may be that it barely managed to survive or the mother feels that she cannot manage the whole litter and singled out the weaker one to make nursing easier for the rest. Touching the kittens with your bare hands shouldn't be an issue if it is a house cat. My cat had kittens a couple of weeks ago too and she doesn't mind us picking them up to stroke their little heads. Like others have said, you may end up bottle feeding the runt, just take it to the vet and see for yourself.

Watch her for a few more days, if the kitten is getting weaker, go to Wal-Mart and in the cat food section they have pet bottles and kitten replacement formula. You will have to start feeding her yourself, until she gets stronger, and then maybe she will be able to get in with the other kittens and fight for Mama's milk.

i had a simular problem, keep trying to get the mother to feed the kitten,if all else fails you may have to hand feed the kitten. you can buy a specil nursing bottle and kittens milk at the vet and some grosery stores, the kitten will have to be fed every 2 to 3 hours,i have done this before and its really not as hard as it sounds, its very rewarding, and you develope a special bond with the kitten.. good luck.

she might be trying to get her lost like in the wild.at petco you can buy cat formula and bottles you should get a syringe also to help the runt get her food also if mama is not giving it to the baby..last yr when our cat had kittens we picked them up and the mama didn;t hide them cause of human smells;that in the wild outside...good luck with your kittens and keep a look out for the littlest as she needs all the help she can get about now.....LOL

I don't know but, please have your cat spayed; there are not enough good homes in the world for the kitties to go to and it's really sad what happen to them, and that's something to really be concerned about... what do you think?
