as an ex car dealer I think that the 999 is a scam and the 980 is to close the 999 number, the 500 is much better

500

I would say 500. It's a nice middle-of-the-road figure. Very generic and non threatening.

999 feels like a scammer that wants to say 20,000 and says 19,999 instead. Ditto for 980.

That's my $9.99 worth of advice!

I recently bought a vehicle. price is a concern of course. but really it was awful that i felt talking to the sales person was like talking to the people at the bank.(i already had a loan). have informed sales people that would be your best bet. as far as the numbers are concerned i think people are tired of the BS just give them a solid number pricing try grabbing attention by using the word thousand instead of 0's.
