My mom was a joint account holder with my dad and is willing to make a payment arrangement with the creditor. She was told to give her social security number and mother's maiden name to their fraud department before they can discuss the acct. Shouldn't they have this info if she is the joint account holder? Why was she forwarded to the fraud dept?

Sounds like she was an authorized user not a joint signer. If she was truly a joint signer, the company would indeed have all of that information. If on the other hand she was an authorized user, they would only have her name and relationship to your Father.

Get a copy of her credit. If on the left hand side under the name of the account there is an A. She is an authorized user. If there is a J, the account is joint.

The thing you need to know is that if your Mom is an authorized user, she is not liable for the balance owed. Your Dad's estate is.

She could have been added just as an additional user on the account without being a co-applicant. If she was only an additional user, that means she has no authority on the account.
