It sounds like you are very frustrated--most of us would be in your situation.

One suggestion would be to contact your local housing authority. Contact the office of your city or county government if you don't know about this agency already. Although funds are tight in these programs funded with Housing and Urban Development monies, many cities and larger towns have a program called Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. If your household is qualified based on income information you submit, you may receive monthly rent assistance. The amount of assistance you would receive would depend on household size and the amount of income that you earn annually.

If you qualify, but no vouchers are available in your city or town right now due to limited funds, you might be asked if you want to have your name on the waiting list for a voucher. If you want assistance from this program, you will definitely want your name on this list.

The other suggestion I have is to call your local Independent Living Center. These agencies advocate for people with disabilities and have practical information and resources. If you don't see a listing for this group in your local phone book, ask for contact information at your county health department.

You don't say how old you are. If you are over age 60 or are caring day-to-day for someone who is over age 60, you also may wish to call your local Area Agency on Aging. You can call toll-free at 1-800-677-1116 to get the contact information for the Area Agency on Aging serving your county. These groups have practical information and help for older Minnesotans and their family caregivers.

I hope this helps. Best wishes and good luck!
