I don't really know. I believe that it is possible that they are links, maybe God tried to create them not in his full image before he created "us". I know that the Bible says that Adam and Eve were the first humans but it says nothing of another not so human creatures before us (at least not that I know of) and we know from evidence that they existed as well as dinosaurs existed before "us". So who is to say that there isn't a lost chapter to the bible, or that the beginning was only of humans as we are now. I just think that there are to many possibilities to it and everyone is afraid to go to deep into anything dealing with religion/evolution. in reality it doesn't really matter to me either way, I am here and I think it is interesting to learn about this stuff it will never change the fact that I am still sitting here now no matter if they find this or that about evolution or the bible..being wrong or right.

i have no quarrel with evolution of the human body.
my belief is that when God "created man" he did so by instilling in him the ability to distuingush himself from the lower forms by having thought,morals,right vs wrong and give him a soul thereby making him "in God's image".
