Suck on something, some airlines pass round boiled sweets. The sucking process helps stop your ears from popping etc.

Either that or when landing, hold your nose and try to blow through your nose, that usually helps me.

But I think the sucking option is probably the best idea.

That feeling generally arise from a blockage of the Eustachian tubes which connect the ears to the throat.

Chewing gum or attempting to yawn will clear the passage and allow the pressure to equalize.

I've been working as a flight attendant for quite sometime now but I still get that feeling. Do the valsalva maneuver. Pinch your nose and with your mouth closed blow the air out, it would ease the ear ache you feel on descent. If only one ear clears out, cover that ear and do the maneuver again.

Never fly when you got colds or stuffed sinuses. You'd cry in pain.

Try taking a decongestant before the flight . It can clear up some of the sinus pressure you have naturally which will reduce the pain when your are in the pressurized cabin. Drink lots of water too....

Take some boiled sweets with you like barley sugar and suck on them as it really helps with the pressure, you could have a word with your GP and he might be able to prescribe something for you or give you better advice, have a great holiday.

Suck on a sweet. The jaw movement help open the ear canal, and equalises the air pressure.

Try yawning, it really works, you should be tired enough by the time you land. When you yawn you stretch all the muscles in your jaw right up to your ears.It seems to allow the pressure to equalise quite quickly.

When you yawn you can feel the inside of your ear, that's when your eustachian tube is unblocking. Do as if you are yawning and the pressure will release.

One of the classical's: open your mouth and "chew" besides taking a few heavy breath or try a real chewing gum.
