There is a big shortage of round boxes to hold those pizzas. Some delivery places do make rectangles for the slices but not many. Triangles (actually sectors) are so fast to do with 4 cuts on the diameter that efficiency wins there.

The pizza slices are sliced the way they are because it saves time. The triangular shape is just the result from creating the most equal portions in the smallest amount of time. The pizza box is made square because it is much easier to make a square box than a round box. It's all to either conserve materials, time, cost, or all.

Because it's not cut into triangles - the third 'side' isn't straight, so it's a segment or arc, not a triangle. And it's really expensive to make round boxes - much easier and cheaper to make square ones.
And that solves the conundrum of the round food in a square box.....

The most obvious reason is that square shaped boxes are good for easy storage, packaging and transportation. Even some crazy people are trying to produce square shaped fruits and vegetables for the above purposes. Check it here http://www.foodproductiondaily.com/news/ng.asp?id=27738-square-shaped-fruit .
Now related to Pizza you can read here why nonsquare boxes are not used. http://www.correllconcepts.com/Pizza_Packaging/square_non-square.htm
In short:
Drawbacks of Non-square Boxes. Generally speaking, the main drawbacks of non-square cartons are that (a) in certain design configurations they can project an unconventional image which might not correlate with the desired image of a pizza company, (b) the covers of non-square boxes tend to have slightly less surface area for printing, and (c) non-square boxes have diminished corner space for packing extra items. However, with creative design, all three of these drawbacks can be reduced or eliminated with most non-square cartons.
To me your question didn't sound stupid at all because many people have done a lot of research in packaging and also for shapes like which shape requires less surface area etc.
Hope it helps.

Do you want to pay the extra money needed to manufacture round boxes? There would probably be a lot of wasted cardboard as well since they would have to cut out circles. If you come up with a cheap round box, let me know. Also, I think the best way to cut up a circle is into the normal shaped slices, same shape for pie.

Ever try making a round cardboard box? It's dern near impossible. Besides a square box w/ corners adds to the strength of the box to protext the piza.
Domino's does a pretty good job of getting close to a round box, though.
