That is the Certificate of Authenticity (COA) with the product key. The product key is to verify that you have a valid licence for the Windows XP. Somewhere in the installation process, you will be asked to key in the product key in order to complete the installation.
You need the installation CD to repair or re-install Windows XP. Without the CD, it can't be done.
You can borrow the CD from anyone but it should be the same version as in your COA. This means if your COA is for XP Home and you install XP Professional, your COA will not be valid.

You will need an Xp Pro CD to reinstall the program. Since you have the license code, you can leaglly use someome else's CD to do the reinstall. Also if you contact Microsoft, they will sell you a install CD (without a code) for (last time I checked) $20. Lot cheaper then the stores.

To get decrease back to XP, you may want to backup any documents files you opt for to save (music, images, etc.) to a unique gadget like a CD or DVD, Flash force etc. Then boot from the XP disk, do not attempt to run the CD even as already in Vista. once you boot from the CD you would receive the alternative to to an entire set up, in the course of the technique there'll be a demonstrate screen which grants the alternative to format the disk or leave the present report gadget intact, you'll opt for to elect the alternative to format. (you need to do a speedy format, vs. finished format in case you opt for to stay away from dropping time, although an entire format has the a million benefit of that it's going to examine your finished demanding force to verify there are not any "problem aspects" on the force. the alternative is yours there.)

Your going to need the your CD. If you try to use someone Else's it will only work for a short while, then it will lock up your computer, and you will have to buy a whole new program. It's happened to me, and I had to go out and buy a new CD.
