I'm looking at the new scion aX which is their hatchback car that has the less box look and i'm looking at others that are similar (i.e. the kia rio 5, spectra 5, nissan versa, toyota yaris/matrix, protege 5, as you can see i like hatchbacks). my main request is, can anyone tell me about scion? pros/cons? anyone, anything. thanks!

The xA has been discontinued, and a new model called the xD will be replacing it.

While the xA was based on a Toyota Echo, it never really sold all that well. Reliabilty should be good, and it seemed well enough put together. Problems were a lack of power, noise and a poor ride. The xD gets more power, and more distinctive looks.

If it is a hatchback, I would do the Mazda3 (replaced the Protege). It consistently ranks in the top of all the tests I have read, and has more power and refinement that the competition. A Honda Fit would also be a good choice. The Sport version with the 5sp manual is a really fun car to drive. The automatic unfortunately dulls the performance and pushes the price up to near Mazda3 levels.

The Matrix is old and loud and due to be replaced. The Yaris was rated one of the biggest disappointments by Consumer Reports.

The Kia's have a good warranty and offer a good amount of equipment. Resale is poor, and reliability is improving, but is still not all that great.

The Nissan Versa is a good small car, but Nissan's have had some reliability issues with their new models. It has tested well though.

I am a Toyota/Honda man. So I was disappointed to read such mediocre reviews on the small Toyota's. The Honda Fit is a good car, but right now is a hot property. Some dealers are marking them up, and considering you can get a deal on a Mazda3, the Fit will not be all that much cheaper.

Hi there, I don't know a lot about them personally since they are newer to the market but www.edmunds.com has a TON of information on cars and consumer report magazine rates cars as well. I would suggest doing a little research on those sites to get a good understanding of the cars.
I'd also suggest looking at the honda fit and toyota yaris a little more. The scion is a newer brand and so does not have all the kinks worked out yet. That being said, my godmother has one and loves it.
Check out the link below and good luck.

Besides looking at consumerreports.com, you can also go to msn autos and compare them side by side. It's a great tool. It will also tell you dependibility ratings, and you can read reviews written by experts and present owners.
