If YOU believe something and without a doubt totally believe in it...it most definitely makes it so. Not everybody will share the same points or views, so, no don't place too much faith in someone else's beliefs, cause it takes all kinds to make the world go round. You are what determines what your beliefs are and through the years of life some of these beliefs will change like the seasons. It's possible to have faith in anything, false or not,it's a matter of totally believing in it.The only thing that could determine the truth is just that the truth.

A child has faith that their parent will come home everyday. That they love them. That they will provide for them. Is this rational or a learned belief system? Can one define and prove this love? Why do they believe and know these things are true? Could it be because of the love they have been shown? That they have seen it demonstrated that they are cared for? Faith in God is no different. To ask one to not believe on these grounds is foolishness.

Faith is the willingness to believe. If we are willing to just be willing, then God does the rest, by putting the faith in us to believe, which then results in the knowing of the truth. God is Truth, and when the Truth is invited into our hearts, it begins to reside there and makes itself known.

That philosophy would undermine every history book ever written. You have to believe some things based on limited evidence. I believe Newton's laws of physics based on the opinion of smarter people than me, combined with some basic evidence. I don't believe in the existence of God, I know He exists, it's not something I discovered by weighing evidence (although there is no more evidence to dipute the existence than to confirm it), I know He exists and stake my life on it.

Only you can determine your truth. Read, do whatever to find it for yourself. Dont just let others beliefs or non beliefs sway you one way or the other. Everyone has their own reasons for their beliefs, some are just lost. Find your own truth.

They have been told from birth this is the truth.
Many theists would have trouble living in a world without an imaginary father figure.
So they believe it, because it's the only way to stay (semi) normal.

People have absolute faith in any number of false ideas.
In fact, having absolute faith in something is a good indicator that the belief is false.

get these books (read chopra 1st):
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b/002-1467482-5912023?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=seven+laws+chopra&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go

These are simple, easy, accessible and mandatory... if you dive into a RELIGIOUS community you will get confused, sidetrack and will get stuck on all the religous distraction which is complicated and usually leads you away from what you came for.
You will be very grateful if you take my suggestion and the books are cheap on amazon $5-$6 used!

I feel that you need to make up your own mind on this topic. (not intended to be insulting). Does believing in something false make it true?...to that person, i feel it must. But to that person alone. Same can be said for believing in something false. If i believe in a lie, the lie wont become truth to everyone, but for me to believ it, it must seem true to me. Just like being a Christian. I believe in the Christ. Does the act of me believing in the Christ make his assention into Heaven true...no. If i didnt believe, he still assended. Its up to the individual to make his or her choice in what they choose to believe, thus making what they believe "truth" to them.

The truth is all subjective, so if you sincerely believe in something, that's the truth for you.
Examples? Religion and politics.
