Yes, you are to honour your mother and father because they are you parents. It does not mean that you have to love them, agree with them or even SEE them.
I was lucky to grow up with wonderful parents and a great childhood. I've seen neighbours grow up with horrible parents.
That is why we are only required to "honour" them
See "Nuts" a movie starring Barbra Streisand.

Most people take this commandment out of context. It does not mean that you must obey everything they want you to do. The bible says that "Parents will not be judged for the sins of their children" and "Children will not be judged for the sins of their parents." Of course, this is meant for children that are grown. I'll look it up and tell you where you can find this later. But it is my belief that honoring your parents is by the way YOU live your life. Your parents may not deserve it but they will be honored in the eye of the public and God if you live your life decently.

Yes, you are. Even though it may be hard sometimes, you have to. Do you want me to send you an article about honoring your father and mother?

To honor someone is to give them distinction, respect, recognition, title, glory, etc. Parents deserve that much, good or bad. This commandment instructs that yes, we really are supposed to honor parents.
Where this gets difficult and we can begin to question how to honor them is when our parents do things we cannot align ourselves with. However, we are never free to dishonor THEM. It is better to be estranged than to speak or behave in ways that demonstrate dishonor.

Yes, it is one of the ten commandments. Some parents don't deserve honor. If they are perverts or beat their children, then they don't deserve our honor. Those kinds of parents must be reported to the authorities. But, we have to work out the spot inside us to forgive our parents, and to honor them to the best of our ability. But, God does not intend for us to suffer at the hands of screwed up parents. You know in your heart how you should feel about your parents. Follow your heart, but as I said, IF your parents are truly abusive to you, then you have to report them for your safety, and so that they can get the help they need, so that you can properly honor them.

YES! please respect them. They deserve that much....just think of all the things that they have done for you, they raise you, feed you, guide you to the right directions, etc. Although, parents at times can be annoying but we still love them & would want to respect them & be there for them as much as they are for us. Please love & respect your parents because we wouldn't be who we are today if it wasn't for them.
