As a personal trainer and group exercise instructor , I get this question 1000 times a day. Contrary to popular belief, all the crunches in the world WILL NOT reduce tummy fat. Cardio exercise is the ONLY way to do this. Running, walking briskly, swimming, cycling or an aerobics class will do nicely. Start slowly if you are a beginner and work your way up to 40-60 minutes most days of the week. Add some strength training. Crunches are a good start because those muscles need strengthening too. Also be sure you work your lower back. Leg raises target the hip flexors but challenge the 'lower abs' as stabilizers. Contact your local gym or rec center for more personalized info.

Exercising will give you stronger muscles but will not directly get rid of fat in a specific area. It helps in the area that actually does matter in weight loss, which requires that caloric expenditure is greater than calories consumed.

Unfortunately, the long term success rate of people trying to lose weight is dismal, with a failure rate around 95%.

If you have lost a lot of weight but still have a "pooch" then some sort of plastic surgery might help. That seems to me to be a very drastic step, exposing you to surgical complications, not to mention a big hit in the bank account, since insurance generally does not pay for such operations.

Spot reduction is not the way to reduce stomach fat. Crunches and situps will strengthen your stomach muscles but do not reduce the fat over the top of it.

The way to get rid of excess fat is to increase your overall exercises such that you're burning more calories than you consume. So, for one increase how much you exercise. Also, change your diet so that you eat healthier. And finally build up some muscle so that your body increases its metabolism.

watch what you eat and do lots of situps every day theres a time i was dong 100 per day but watch ur back go easy start at ten lots of water and food closest to its natural form it also depends on how much fat there is how big ur tummy is sometimes u may burn some fat but the skin was already streched so it hangs also remeber once a fat cell is formed its never destroyed one can only reduce it in size so watch the diet

Lots of situps...I'm trying to do the same thing, if you get in a routine of doing sit-ups and crunchs everyday, it starts to show.
