After I get into the screen where it syncs my nano, two boxes show up on my taskbar TV SHOWS and TUNES. After they appear, the screen freezes and in task manager it shows TV SHOWS and TUNES as "Not Responding".

Do you mean itunes.exe? There are several different things at play here, and it is unlikely you will resolve this issue in a timely fashion in a forum like this. If you have a laptop and live near an Apple Store, make an appointment take the nano and computer in to the Genius Bar for free support. Otherwise, try calling Apple for phone support at 1-800-APL-CARE, or checking out their online support.

Do you have your nano plugged in before you open iTunes? Try doing it in reverse... and see if that works.
