Knowing that you need help and getting it is the first and hardest step, but once you start things can become easier. We all need help and support at times to get back on track, I would suggest the best thing for you now would be someone that you can trust that will understand you (even if you don't want to communicate) and can help you seek out the right treatment. I find with my own Depression (mixed with ocd) having options and some control over my treatment is better the being forced or told this is what I must do.

It does get better if you start to control the illness rather then letting the illness control you.

Hi! I also suffer from depression (though not as severe as yours I'd say) firstly are you on antidepressants? although I do not believe they are the answer they can help you get through when it seems too much to bare.. I've been doing research on the effect of Omegas and depression - the results are encouraging. check out www.vegepa.com, these pills are unlike any other omega pill and they are specifically for mental illness. omegas help to make the brain function normally, and also increase serotonin production and absorbtion... unfortunatley I havent been able to try them yet but will do so in the near future... there are also a few natural alternatives to antidepressants such as amoryn and anxietol 7. IMPORTANT: medication is only the first step. you need to focus on the positive things in life - your beautiful children and grandchildren (i know this is hard to do but you have to train your brain to think differently). Dont cut yourself off from people - they are your lifeline - let them help you and do things even if you really dont want to - you'll feel better afterwards... I know this is all very easy to say - believe me I'm still working on it! Please believe me when i say the most important thing to work on are your thoughts!! positive thoughts will eventually heal your depression, you'll just need some help getting there! also If you need someone to talk to my email is berky@hellokitty.com. Hope ive been of some help to you mate. you can do this!!!

I suffer from depression and I found the best cure for me was exercise. No, I don't mean a 2 hour workout in a gym, but any activity that gets you moving.
Try a brisk walk. I understand that you may not want to go out, but you must. Take a flask and a sandwich and make that a reward for going out.
Set yourself small goals that are easily achieved and build on that.
Avoid sitting at home and brooding. I hope I don't sound flippant but it worked for me, and it was better than drugs. Good Luck.

If you can afford it start private counselling asap. I was diagnosed with depression in December and although the antidepressants i have taken have helped it has been the counselling that has really started to make an improvment in my life. The only trouble is I had to wait 10 weeks to see a counsellor going through the NHS

I've been here. Get yourself to the doctors and ask about antidepressants. I was prescribed Fluoxetine (Prozac) its the first drug they will usually prescribe you with. I've been on it for just over two weeks and I'm feeling a lot better. Had been depressed with anxiety for 2 months.

Also, ask about Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) depression is mostly casued by how you think. ts well worth getting this treatment or read a book on it.

Hope it works out for you fella, dont give up!
