I know the chipotle bit, but I am unsure what odobe means and it is called for in a recipe - would ordinary chillis suffice? Where would I find chipotle in Odobe? UK.

I think you mean chipotle in adobo sauce
as you know chipotle means a roasted jalapeno pepper and the adobo means marinated. The chipotle is marinated in a thick tomato and vinegar sauce.
I use it chopped up in chiles or pork ribs and even with eggs for a smoky and spicy flavor additive.
Ad far as where to find it, you must locate a store that sells mexican products like dried chile peppers, salsa, refried beans...
or google it for online shopping. I use a brand Embassa in Seattle, WA USA.

A chipotle is a smoked jalapeno pepper. You can buy them canned in Adobe sauce (though they may spell it differently in different areas or on different brands) in the Mexican/Ethnic section of the grocery store.

You should be able to find it in a can in the ethnic section of your grocery store. Adobo is a smokey sauce the peppers are in.
Look for it in a small can near the Mexican stuff.
