All PBT's are supposed to be calibrated. That way, the calibration can be used in court as additional evidence showing the unit was working properly. Additionally, the PBT is not admissable in court, but can only be used as an added source to support your PC for the eventual arrest. In other words, you should have several other "clues" indicating legal intoxication levels beside PBT results.

A PBT is calibrated at the factory and carry a "standard sample" inside that keeps them calibrated. It doesn't really matter since a PBT can only be used to further probable cause and are not indicators of any type of guilt such as a intox machine or blood test.

One way we check the calibration of a PBT is to check it with a known sample i.e. alcohol solution checked with the intoxilyzer. The factory "calibrates" the PBT just like we don't calibrate radar, we check the calibration.

Yes but the preliminary breath test can't be used against you in court.
