Many departments still use them as well as psychological evals and even a few that use voice stress analyzers now. The questions are always either yes or no type of questions but are designed to elicit a bodily response as well. You will fill out a questionnaire prior and the examiner will base questions on your answers. I was asked if I ever stole anything. I answered no thinking he meant stuff like cars, TVs, etc. After I finished the written exam the he explained that even when I was in the military where we used to "appropriate" things it is still stealing technically. So the correct answer should have been yes, I stole stuff. Then on the actual polygraph the question was "Is it true that you have taken things that didn't belong to you?" I about died but answered yes. I passed which is what they are looking for anyway. So if the guy is good, there is no real set of questions to be asked. Be honest, honesty and integrity is what they want.

I'm not sure that many police departments use polygraphs on new officers, they use civil service exams to determine if you are capable of handling the job, and then an academy course to weed out the meek and weak.
polygraph tests are unreliable, they require a highly trained operator to use correctly, and a series of "control" questions (such as do you have a dog, have you ever eaten at...) just to measure your base heart rate.
if they do however use polygraph, then im sure the questions would pertain to your criminal background (have you ever been arrested, have you ever committed armed robbery, do you know any convicted felons. etc.) stuff to that effect.
no worries, so long as your not a felon

1. Have you ever asked "what questions are on the polygraph test to become a police officer" on Yahoo Answers?
2. Do you have something to hide in regard to question 1?
3. Do you want to become a police officer just so you can whack people in the head with your baton?
4. Do you feel overlooked and powerless in your life and want to become a police officer so you can push other people around?
