The invite said "No gifts" but i don't like going anywhere empty handed. I have about a 30 dollar budget.
He was an electrician and sometimes golfs or fishes.
A 30 dollar gift certificate seems cheap, don't think i want to get golf balls or anything like that... any ideas?

The invitation said "No gifts", so don't take a gift. You don't want to embarrass him or the other guests. A better gift is to spend time with him. If you like golf or fishing them spend time doing that together. Go out for a day together or cook him a meal.

I'm sorry, Luv, you obviously don't listen very well. He said no gifts. If you didn't bring a gift he would appreciate that a lot more than if you did because you are only getting him a gift out of some moral consumer reflex. Cook him a meal or take him out to his favourite eating place.
Actually he would like to see you in any case so do exactly what you feel like doing. I think I have been watching too many afternoon movies...Why don't you email this page to your unc and get him to choose best answer. Then he can't complain you didn't get him what he really wanted.

Since your Uncle requested "no gifts" how about a card with a note asking him for some of his "free time". Tell him you would like to go fishing with him or out for a golf lesson. A gift of yourself and some of your time would probably be greatly appreciated.

Where I live, I saw advertised in the paper: a low cost day at the golf course. It was like about $50. Or how about new golf clubs or a new fishing pole. Or even if you spent the day with him either golfing or fishing.

Get him 6 - $5.00 gift certificates to McDonalds so he can eat breakfast every morning.

Get him one of those folding chairs that goes everywhere.

Get him a stop watch for walking so he can tell how far he went.

Go to a sports shop or the sports area at Walmart and get him some fishing lures or something like that. I'm sure he'd like it.
