I have had hcv since the age of 8 (if not longer!). When they finally found out what was wrong with me (many symptoms!)-
I jumped on the antiviral chemotherapy wagon! I had three biopsies prior to treatment (only because the docotor felt like he didn't get a good sample the first two times).
I then began interferon, ribavirin and amantadine. Not all folks have had the "triple" treatment.
My genotype was 2b. The standard now days for my genotype is 6 months of treatment, however, I did a full 48 weeks.
I actually felt better on treatment-many folks don't realize they have symptoms of HCV, but all of my symptoms went away on treatment. I responded (post 5 years now) and am considered cured.

There are many folks out there who will tell you horror stories about treatment but the thing is, they didn't do the ONE thing that makes all the difference in how well your treatment will go and that is "DRINKING WATER". Water keeps the body flushed-which is the BEST thing to do while enduring chemo. Water reduces side effects by about 85%!

Other things to do is join a support group. (in person, or online) the latter is much easier to tolerate somedays...you dont have to get up and get dressed to get online!

There are others who could not tolerate chemo because of "bi-directional diseases" caused by HCV or those that might have or had Lyme disease or other diseases not associated with HCV.

Chances are that you will do JUST FINE on antiviral chemo...after all, there is no other chance of a possible cure using anything else-that includes herbs, flushes, cleanses...ect ect....those that claim a cure by anything other than traditional medicine are not cured.

Good luck and if you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask!
