a gift certificate to the nursery you had planned on buying the blue spruce from.
If they would like a blue spruce then they will appreciate the gift certificate and being able to choose what they plant and when.

I think its interesting that so many people assume your boss is a man...lol.
Go to your local winery and see if they will make a personalized bottle for the couple with their name and wedding date on it. Maybe it will cost you 10-25 dollars depending on what you buy and where you live.
Also...I found a seamstress who made a white satin bottle sack for the personalized wine..with some grapes and their names embroidered on it..very inexpensively.
good luck. it is a gift that will be remembered...different...and not too personal or inpersonal for the boss.

How about the candle poem accompanied by a coordinating basket of candles? Although, this might be too personal for you, but I loved my boss and I would have used it for her
A basket of candles that come in a pair
In all different colors, for you two to share
The white ones burn first
They are wrapped in white lace
To celebrate your first married night
In your new chosen place.
The green pair is taller, and also much thinner
Burn with the first company you have over for dinner
The dark blue candles are for after your first fight
Use them to burn while making up all night
Pink candles set the mood and pave the way
For your first married Valentine's Day
Now, when your first year of marriage is through
the cream anniversary pair will light for you two.
Red candles aflame, both your futures are bright
Celebrate promotions you've worked toward with all of your might.
By this time we hope, maybe, just maybe
You can light the purple ones, on the birth of your baby.
And just when you thought you'd put these away
Take the light blue ones out for your fifth anniversary day.
Now just one more pair left for the big 25
The anniversary pair that will keep your love alive.
Congratulations bride and groom (enter names)
On the start of your forever
May the two of you always be happy together
And burn these candles
Just the way we said
But please don't forget - blow them out before bed!!

Are you going to the wedding? If you are, you should stick to money. The tree is a nice thought, but how do you know he wants a tree in his yard? Plus, if you don't make that much $$, don't worry about giving a large gift...he knows how much you make and I'm sure he'll understand!!

The only problem with trees is they take FOREVER to grow into a beautiful tree! Since he is your boss- depending on how close u are- I think I would stick to a great gift certificate to a fancy restaraunt that he can take his new bride out to a romantic dinner. That will be appreciated by both of them

I don't have any cool ideas, but did your boss have a registry? That way you can check to see what she/he wanted and what she/he actually received. It's always cool to get them something that they need or want and you don't risk having them return your gift if they don't like it. Having a registry is a sure fire way of making sure you receive gifts that you DO want.

I like your idea for a tree... what about a painting or really cool, unique artpiece?

Get them something from their gift registry -- you can't go wrong because they picked the items.
