I'm assuming paraprofessional in a school. you didn't specify. pay scales are determined by the school system and vary a great deal. larger systems can afford to pay more than smaller ones. teachers get 12 payments (one is 2-3 months combined pay for over the summer) and 9 month personnel don't. talk to someone who works at the school you'd like to work .

I'm assuming you mean a paraprofessional in education. I'd guess that the pay for a teaher with a degree is substantially better than that for a paraprofessional. A couple of further thoughts--in many districts teachers have to go on for a masters degree to keep their jobs, so that might be a consideration. On the other hand, I'd bet paraprofessionals get more menial tasks to do and certainly do not have the professional respect teachers have (if there is any professional respect left today). Then again, paras probably don't have to deal with parent complaints as much as teachers do. I'd say if you plan to make education a career, become a teacher. If working in education is just a stop gap for a couple of years, maybe it's not worth becoming a teacher.
