If you have a barbecue, you don't really need one. I use an aluminium pan fill with water and place it above the wood chunks which have been soaked in hot water(boiling). This way the ribs can cook and have a chance to absorb the smoke. Open the vent from underneath and partly on the top(I am assuming you have a weber) so that the smoke will move around in the barbecue, linger and slowly exit. If you can make your ribs earlier in the day and finish them off in the oven the flavor of the smoke will have a chance to settle in the meat and be more prominent in the meat flavor. Enjoy!
