By the end of the day, I'm running to the bathroom steady! Do my 2 coffees a day even count towards that? What gives?

I know that coffee is a diuretic, but they say it also dehydrates you!! Confusing!

Coffee is a diuretic which means it dehydrates you - making you pee more often.

What else do you drink in a day? Soda? Tea? Juice? Milk? Even foods like rice, lettuce, etc are mainly made of water so as your digestive system breaks down the foods, you will pee out the the extra fluids. The coffee will make you pee more too.

First of all, dieuretic means that it will dehydrate you...that means that it causes water loss. However, the amount of water each person needs each day varies, depending on the person and the amount of activity you do. You might want to consider drinking a little more water, just to be sure. If you get headaches frequently, that could mean dehydration. This is gross, but check the colour of your urine...if its clear or a very, very pale yellow, then you're not dehydrated. But if its dark yellow and smells, you need to drink more water.

Any liquid on the planet that is fit for human consumption contains water(even milk). The suggestion for 8 cups of water is from the food and drug administration and sinec water is plentiful and cheap they say drink water(plus there is no way that it can hurt you). I barely touch the stuff and I am well hydrated. I drink more than 8(8oz) servings of liquid a day so.....unless your going all day without peeing you got no problem.

You need non-caffeinated hydration. You have to change the way you look at water. It is the most essential nutrient you can put into your body. Just get a bottle of water and carry it with you all day. If it goes empty, refill or buy another bottle. Most veggies can also be a good source of water as well (i.e celery, lettuce.)

The body best utilizes water is small quantities at a time (no more than 8 ounces). The quantity demanded by the body varies by how much exercise you do and how much protein you consume. The byproducts of protein utilize alot of water to excrete from the body. I drink up to two gallons in one day of rigorous exercise and maybe like a gallon on a rest day.

When you consume a fluid that is not water, the body has to scrounge up what free water it has to try to rinse the suspended materials out of the body. When you take in plain water, it enables your body to clean itself. When the body has to filter and clean out more toxins because of what you eat and drink it does not count as hydration. That would be like trying to water your plants with urine - it does not work.

I know - it is a pain for me too. But the good news is that when you space out your water consumption and do it in sips rather than large amounts at one time, eventually as the backlog of toxins begins to clean out, the increased need to urinate will slow down. Try to consider that you are doing your body a favor every time you have to go to the bathroom.

Coffee, soups...Anything that contains water in it will help to keep the body hydrated. However, drinking 8 cups of water a day will be healthier for your body then taking in things like coffee. If not, try soups. Vegetable soups, mushroom soups.

Coffee counts as water..."Drinking coffee has been found to be as hydrating as drinking water, and coffee has been shown to have the same minimal diuretic effect as water. "
