honestly I could help but it depends on where the steps are outside or inside. if outside. first measure the hight of the railing already up there but if not its normaly 3 foot. dig a hole and put a post in the ground beside the bottome step at the end. cut it off 3 ft from the top of the bottom step mark a line all the way across. do the same at the top step too if you don't have hand rail up there already. use a straight edge and line up the far back of the top pole to the far front of the front pole there is a angle and mark that angle cut the post off using thant angle. cut a 2X4 to the proper legth and screw it to the top of the post which should be 4X4. now the bottom you measure 3 inches from the top of each one of the steps like you did on the top and mark you lines take your 2X4 and line up the bottom of it on those lines pull it tightly to the post and go on the inside and mark the 2X4 with the 4X4 as the straight edge and cut the 2X4 on those lines.the 2X4 should fit in between the 4X4's lined up with the bottom to you marks. to put the lil pillers in between you must find center and use a level to make the center one perfectly straight cut if needed and screw to the top and bottom you may have to get a 2X2 and screw to the bottom of the top part to keep even distance from the edge to match the bottom. us a 2X4 scrap and space your pillers evenly by placeing the 2X4 scrap in between to line them up and screw. and then OMG you have a hand rail. I hope you understand me if not try looking at DIY.com

Depends on the material your steps are made of and the material of the handrail. Or do you wanted it only mounted on an adjacent wall. too little info here to really be of much help.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/YtHaw
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.
