First of all, like I have said many times to folks, this war is not a war against Iraq or its people! The Iraq war (2003) ended in when we eradicated the former Iraqi army and liberated the people from a murderous dictator. That war is over! The war we are fighting now is the continued war on terrorism. We are aiding Iraq and defending against Iranian/Syrian supported insurgents who are thirsty for blood.
We will not pull out until we are sure that Iraq has a stable government, police force, and army. If we do not do this, then Iraq will fall into the hands of another dictator and we will not be able to stop it. You could say, 'so what', however, we will feel the effects of that down the road and then we will be right back to the drawing board. This is not a cut and dry issue. There is a much larger picture to all of this.
And though similarities could be made to Vietnam, this is NOT another Vietnam. This is totally different. The goals are different, the missions are different, and the enemy is different.

it will stop when the mission is complete. And if the iranians continue on the path of supplying the insurgents, they will end up feeling the wrath of the United States and our allies. And by the way if we leave Iraq before our mission is complete, it would be an insult to our soldiers. It would signify that the people do not believe they can handle it, when it really is the people who cant handle it. There are many sorry people in America who claim to be true Americans, But a true American believes in success, and will stop at nothing to achieve it.

unusual isn't it? i look at distinct the answeres above and performance to ask if we are all conversing about a similar Iraq. this isn't a warfare - in warfare your enemy is stated via a uniform. This a conflict antagonistic to faceless terrorists. That truth makes it unwinnable a similar as Vietnam for the U. S. and northerly eire for the united kingdom. no matter if we pull out the following day or in ten years time the terrorists will nevertheless be there hiding among the inhabitants. My son's regiment has lost 4 adult men contained in the merely accurate 4 weeks in Basra. i visit merely provide you mutually with his comments as being maximum qualified to finish that: "the significant base in Basra is lower than on a daily basis attack and troops on patrol are at risk of attack once they step out the significant gate - that is how close the terrorists have were given!! the priority has now reached the point the position aspects are being surpassed over to the Iraqi military for political motives even with those aspects nevertheless being risky. After provide up they're right now overrun via terrorists we are being despatched lads immediately out of undemanding education to attempt to make up the numbers and then having to attempt to coach them a thanks to stay alive - that education become performed earlier deployment yet now no longer. they're the lads we are dropping. that is a finished feck up"

"War is an extention of diplomacy by other means". Gen von Clauzwitz.
All wars, regardless of what they are called (religious, patriotic, etc.) boil down to economics. Sometimes you have to look pretty deep for it, but there it is. The western powers (England, France, Germany), about 90 years ago, carved out the countries of the middle east by drawing lines on a map without any regard to culture, tribal areas or ethnic boundaries. The surprising thing is that there is any stability there at all.

Russia essential.....for centuries (USSR) Russia has ruled the middle east or at least have kept these little warring nations at bay (geographically it makes sense) These ppl were warring at Russia's back door and they decided...F it we are going to take u over at least keep u out of the West by shooting u on site for crossing air space and boarders and what not.
Now that Russia is suffering financially and is falling apart...the west no longer has that buffer zone...so now it's just spilling out into West.

It will stop when people stop hating and start loving. People also need to believe there is best in people and always be positive. But what the heck. Let's face it. That's not gonna happen anyway in this lifetime.

IT'LL STOP WHEN THE IRANIANS STOP ARMING THE INSURGENCE. DUDE CHECK YOUR HISTORY VIETNAM WAS FRANCES WAR NOT BRITAIN. THE FRENCH RAN LIKE THEY ALWAYS DO. VIETNAM HAD 56K PLUS DEAD AMERICANS. WE ARE NO WHERE NEAR THAT IN IRAQ. YOUR FRIEND IS MISINFORMED LIKE YOU. THE WAR WAS A RESULT OF ALL THE CRAP THAT IS GOING ON IN THAT PART OF THE WORLD. WE DID NOT INHERIT THIS WAR WE STARTED IN RESPONSE TO THE OUT CRIES OF CONGRESS AND THE OVER ZEALOUSNESS OF THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION.
HERE IS A BIT OF THE VIETNAM WAR HISTORY.
The Vietnam War was a military conflict in present day Vietnam occurring from 1959 to April 30, 1975. The conflict was a successful effort by the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV or North Vietnam) and the indigenous National Front for the Liberation of South Vietnam, (also known as the Việt Cộng, or more informally as the "Charlie", "VC" or "Cong") to unify Vietnam as a communist state, defeating the South Vietnamese Republic of Vietnam (RVN). To a degree, the Vietnam War was a "proxy war" between the U.S. and its Western allies on the side of the RVN, with the Soviet Union and the People's Republic of China supporting the DRV on the other. As a result of this it is often considered part of the Cold War.
The chief cause of the war was the failure of Vietnamese nationalists, in the form of the Viet Minh, to gain control of southern Vietnam both during and after their struggle for independence from France in the First Indochina War of 1946–54.
The U.S., in particular, deployed large numbers of military personnel to South Vietnam between 1954 and 1973. U.S. military advisors first became involved in Vietnam as early as 1950, when they began to assist French colonial forces. In 1956, these advisors assumed full responsibility for training the Army of the Republic of Vietnam or ARVN. President Kennedy increased America's troop number from 500 to 16,000. Large numbers of American combat troops began to arrive in 1965. The last American troops left the country on April 30, 1975.[2]
At various stages the conflict involved clashes between small units patrolling the mountains and jungles, guerrilla attacks in the villages and cities, and finally, large-scale conventional battles. U.S. aircraft also conducted substantial aerial bombing campaigns, targeting both logistical networks and the cities and transportation arteries of North Vietnam. Large quantities of chemical defoliants were also sprayed from the air in an effort to reduce the cover available to enemy combatants.
The Vietnam War was finally concluded on 30 April 1975, with the fall of the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon to North Vietnamese forces. The war claimed between 2 and 5.7 million Southeast Asian lives,[3] a large number of whom were civilians.
