Continue your usual practice regime, but remember this:

When the audition comes, you will be intensely focused on that. When I audition (music,) nothing else in the world exists.

And if you are scared and afraid that it will come out in your voice, run and get a sympathetic doctor to write you a prescription for Inderal. It will relieve the physical symptoms of stage fright, like weak knees or shaky lips. It'll be you controlling the psychological ones. Just knowing that you have your little helper ( we call it "vitamin I") will boost your confidence. Take it the night before the audition, too, so you're not a physical wreck then, too.

Be careful with the Inderal because it can cause dry mouth.

Sometimes I'll just accept the nerves. "OK, I'm auditioning. Here are my little friends the nerves. I'm used to having you around. You don't bother me."

There are millions of people whose jobs require auditions. Think of us as your brotherhood, and remember that we're all behind you.

You absolutely have my support. You are going to be fine, even if it doesn't seem like it right now. Grief has a huge effect on your voice so please make sure you are getting a lot of rest, make sure you are drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day, try a tea called Throat Coat (you can get it at any grocery story or pharmacy) it really helps to soothe the voice, Practice every day. Even if you have to make something up that you might announce on the radio....it will help with your nerves. Talk about your feelings either with close friends/relatives or with a counselor. Friends and family may help with the short term but you might need a little extra help in the long run. I am so sorry you've had a tragedy in your life but my spirit and prayers will be with you all the way. Best of luck to you.
