Atkins is ok short term, but long term it is dangerous. Try a dry hamburger patty or tuna fish for lunch...all protein, not carbs or fat... Abacore tuna taste just like chicken...so good.

I once did Atkins and had a lot of good results. I lost about 60 pounds (a lot more than water weight). However, I went off of the diet and was never able to get back on it.
The problem with Atkins, from my experience, is that it is about manipulating your bodies chemicals. Trying to trick the body into burning the fat by suppressing carbs. Your biochemistry is a complicated thing. Unbalance one chemical and who knows what other changes are happening. All of the chemicals in your body need to be balanced. Messing with that balance can cause problems.
I have never met a person who has completely led a life of Atkins. I know a lot of people who tried it for a while, even a few months. However, I have never met anyone who has stayed on it for years.
The main allure to this diet is that it seems to be easy to do. Stay away from carbs and it should be easy. However, like you are finding out carbs are not that easy to cut from the diet. I much prefer a balanced approach to diet. Make sure you have plenty of veggies and fruits. Have some bread and some meat. Have a bit of indulgence every day like a bit of candy. Every now and them treat your self to something wicked (pizza is my poison of choice). Plus, you have to exercise. Not just for weight loss. Not just for the health benefits. It is just a good mental release every now and then.

I have never been on the atkins diet, but I've read and heard from different sources that this diet plan is not long term, one loses weight only for the short term duration. Supposedly the South Beach diet is a better low-carb choice, but most experts say that the most nutritious eating regimen is by the (new) food pyramid. And of course incorporating some physical activity to burn the calories and fat that one consumes is crucial for weight management. I try to merely stick with a low-fat, high (or medium, for me :) fiber diet. I do have intestinal problems, so I am not able to get all of the fruits, veggies and whole grains that I should. Please talk with your dr before starting a low carb diet or any regimen though, and good luck!

Things I did: made recipes from the cookbook and brought lunch to work, went to a cafeteria where I couls get a meat entree and a vegetable, or if it had to be a fast food place, a bunless burger or grilled chicken. Boiled eggs, tuna, cheese, the rest of grilled fish from last night's restaurant meal.
You just have to get creative. Good luck to you. Make sure you drink lots of water.

No Carb is out! Your brain suffers for it. People on no-carb diet have problems remembering things and their kidneys can't handle the workload. Sensible diets are best, with maybe cutting the carbs out later in the day.
