The vast majority of small metallic bodies pass into the stomach and throughout the digestive tract without incident. The most likely place that it would get hung up would be in the lower throat or in the esophagus. If he is hoarse, has difficulty swallowing or has discomfort in his chest, he should see a doctor. An x-ray can reveal the location of the object.

Not all swallowed objects are harmless. If it were made of lead, old pewter, or zinc, consider taking a laxative to move it out of your system quickly.

You probably won't find an object that small in your stool unless you screen it very carefully. Good luck!

No he doesn't need to go to the doctor. The earring back will pass through his intestine and get flushed out when he has a BM once it gets that far.

It will naturally pass........It doesnt seem sharp or big enough to cause any kind of internal damage. Just think of all the things babies and kids swallow!

theres no need to go to the doctor. he should excrete it in a few days. if it ends up coming out in his urine though,, thats a different story.
