you need to tell the recruiter exactly what you want,, if you want the HM rate tell the recruiter from the start that is the rate you want.,, yes you will have them pushing other rates on you,, but stick to what you want.
as far as the typical day,, there is no typical day for a corpsman, if your in a hospital as a 0000, then you will be working a ward, changing bed pans and what not. if you are and 0000/8404 as a female you will be with a FSSG unit and you will deploy to Iraq for how ever long they are down there.
i hope this helps a little if you need more info, then send me an email and i will tell you what i can

HM is CLOSED to females for at least the next 2 years. your chances of getting a slot are about nil.
Youyr recruiter cannot give you something that is not available. There are very few slots iopne to women in HM to begin with, and they have all been snatched up. There is no room for females in HM at this time, and there won't be for quite a while.
So, you need to decide.. do you want to enlist in the Navy, or do you want to be a medic? becuase if you want Navy, than do some research and pick a few other ratings.. keep in mind, however, that typically female ratings such as ADMIN ones are also closed at the moment and you would need to look at High Tech ratings such as OS or Nuke
to respond to PC1: DT has merged with HM and is no longer a seperate rating. It's just an NEC now.

Here's the truth. Your recruiter has nothing to do with the job you get in the navy. Your recruiter's job is to get you to MEPS where you'll be given a full physical exam and tested for aptitude (ASVAB).
After that's finished you'll see a classifier at MEPS. It's the classifier's job to match you up with a job.
If you are eligible for the HM rate it's been my experience in the past that there will usually be openings. However, being female you might not get offered the job. You will be offered many jobs and multiple dates to ship out for boot camp based on the various requisitions the classifier has available.
Remember, your recruiter should be able to answer any and all questions you have about the various rates, but it's not his job to actually get you a job and he can't promise to do so. All that will be taken care of at MEPS.

First i want to commend you on your decision to join the greatest branch in the U.S. military.
ok now to answer your question take the asvab
test and the scores will tell them if they can put you in that position. after school will be assighned somewhere not all corpsmans go with marines but its possible.
deployments for active duty is any wher from 6 months to a year depending on the mission
a typical day as a corpsman would be as the same as a nurse, doctor in any hospital taking care of the injured and sick.
good luck stay strong

Yes it would be very hard to get into the HM rate. However, there is another you might try without compromise. DT=Dental Tech is another simular rate and might be the way to go. Ask your recruiter

study before the asvab test
your score determines what you are allowed to pick as a job (or MOS)
there are online practice tests
and you can retake at any time during enlistment
to improve your score
Iraq is a possibility
typical day is very busy
