no, no matter how much education on ethics a police officer has, that has nothing to do with how ethical they are as a human being. You can have one cop have a PhD. in ethics and another one have an associates or just a high school diploma, and that doesn't determine how ethical they are. Ethics is something you learn when you are young. And you develop it as you get older, but you have to know the difference between right and wrong.

More ethical.? My short answer is no...Educated yes.. But recruits recieve ethics training in the academy as a standard course of educatioin. Ethics and honesty is either something you have or something you dont. It comes back to the way you were raised and the environment you grew up in.
Maybe the better question should be should parents be required to take ethics training for raising thier children.

Ethics comes down to morals. An education (or lack thereof) has no bearing on a person 's morals. These are things that are learned prior to a law enforcement career. Do some law officers have poor morals? You bet. And so do doctors, lawyers, politicians...all of which have degrees of higher learning. Good luck!

I think you're right. When I was attending college I took a Philosophy course in Ethics. Half were police officers. They would all agree that the course made them better prepared to make tough decisions.

I have always believed that ethics are learned early in life from parents and other family. I have always thought that college classes on ethics to be something of a waste of time.

Ethics and Education do not necessarily go hand in hand, lawyers are educated as well as politicians in most cases.....I wouldn't call them entirely ethical. Education gives insight, wisdom and experience in certain situations. Ethics you either have or don't.

Certainly NOT! Education does not make a person ethical. just look at the politicians and lawyers for examples. It would be like requiring a Person who is going in the military to have a degree in military science even though they are required to be completely trained for the job after joining. It's not feasable to require it for entry, but having it sure does help later on.

I don't think ethics have anything to do with knowledge or inteligence. I think it may give officers the ability to have a better understanding of what they SHOULD do, but they are still human, so whether they will do it is a different story.

No, actually in my opinion, it makes them less ethical. Besides, could you imagine trying to pay off college debt on a police officer's pay?

No, it does not. The Police officer will be better trained in Ethics, but whether they chose to follow them or not is up to them.
