I too have used Spark People and had great success with it. You can track your activities, change your meal plan if you like, and there is support for you if you need it.
I personally try to stay under the calorie limit suggested and also the fat limit. That way if I get off track one day it's not too bad in the long run.
And, as stated, the fat intake is varying depending on your body and circumstances.

The number is 30 grams, but consider that sugar and salt are not good as well. A lot of labels will say 'no fat' or 'low fat' and be full of calories and sugar. Just be aware and watch it. Also, boxed/frozen food have lots of salt which is not good for you either. Try to eat grilled foods, try NOT to eat out, and cut back on how much you eat. Eat healthy and drink lots of water. Adding exercise is important...even if it's just walking down the block.

It depends on how tall you are and how much you weigh.
I have taken care of patients who start out at 700 pounds and the amount of calories and fat grams they start out on are much higher than someone who weights 200 pounds.
It takes a dietician to help you determine the amount of fat grams you are allowed a day. They have a formula for it.

no less than 20% of the daily calories should be from fats. so the actual number in grams will vary from person to person

30 or under would be great. 60 is the recommended daily allowance. each time i've dieted and lost weight, i've done so by having below 30 fat grams. if you're really watching what you eat, it's possible to keep it at 30 or less and not starve yourself.
good luck.
