Have you always trusted and valued your husbands opinion to the extent that you question him like this. He loves you and would never fabricate any information in order to deceive you. He will be truly hurt and insulted if he finds out you have such low confidence in him. You should feel shame and humiliation for such a deed.

I grow up in the north east of England and moved to Oxfordshire, and it is an enormous difference in water quality. Down south we have to use twice as much soap as up north to get same amount of lather, and it tastes totally different. My mum had to buy bottled water for me because I just couldn't stand the chemical taste of water down here, I could taste it through juice drinks mixed in with it!
Twelve years later and I am totally used to it, but whenever I visit my family up north I can't stand the water (it tastes ...wrong) and I always always forget about the flippin shower and end up nearly drowning in bubbles from shampoo as down south it would give very few bubbles, up north I'm lucky not to suffocate in the damn things.
So no, I really doubt as far up as you you will need water softener, it would probably make the water harder it's so soft already up there!

Yes it is true. Water is very soft in Glasgow, good for drinking and for washing, but not quite as soft or as good as Dunbar in East Lothian

It is true, our water is soft as water run off from hills into lochs runs over peat which gives the water an acid balance = soft. Alkili - eg chalk, limestone gives hard water.
We don't get limescale in our kettles, washing machines, dish washers, etc as they do in London. (which is disgusting by the way and can ruin your appliances)

Glagow water is very soft, you don't need water softeners, descalers and can use a lot less soap.
