Budget document states intentions of the Government of the day. Whether a budget is good or bad will be answered only when the intentions are put into action. If we go by the past records, these are not very complimentary to the FM or the Government. The government has been collecting education cess @ 2% of the tax amount for over a year now. How much of that money has been spent on furthering the causes of education is not answered. No doubt the FM has also attempted to present an achievement record from time to time. But these are too hazy. Inflation is said to be around 6.5%. But most of the products of daily consumption are up by more than 10 to 15%. It is not enough if the prices of rail tickets, air tickets and petrol are reduced. What about the articles of daily consumption? For example, milk - daily used by over 1 crores people of this country, has gone up by 1 rupee to 1.50 rupees in most of the places. Monthly expenses per family is up by at least 45 rupees for every family. This is just an example. Many more would be available.

Budget holds attraction for those people who pay income tax and want reduction in the rates or raising the levels of exemption from it. It interests those people who want reduction in import duties and excise duties. For the common man who lives at less than Rs. 6000 per month, there is absolutely NOTHING dazzling or attractive in this budget or any budget for that matter.
