Gary makes a statement about hearing the "Truth" upsetting the question's asker. This has me a bit confused. Should you be glad that the "Truth" upsets people? Shouldn't that be a bad thing? I guess if by being upset it makes you think about it, it could be a good thing, but I would just expect people to seek a different reaction.

I think it's the attitude here that bothers me. Thoughts?

(PS This statement specifically related to Christianity, but my question could apply to any "Truth".)

the truth does hurt
of course it does
but when we come to ask questions from others , we have to accept there will be two sides to things
I know in my own beliefs , I have had to alter my thinking at times when presented with something I cannot dismiss
but this is the only way to grow

p.s love your new look :o)

Truth is what intelligent people seek through study based on evidence and logical analysis of that evidence. As far a Gary being joyousy in his "truth" upsetting somebody, consider the source, a person that thinks truth is based on faith and dogma without evidence. It's sad, really.

The problem is that there is no such thing as "truth". In fact, people declaring "truths" have been the greatest liars throughout history. If you declare a statement as "truth" you just want to suppress doubt and criticism. And that indeed might upset people.

If the religious society was to function by truth it would cease to exist, and that would go for all societies in the world today, mankind functions on a limited amount of truth today because most people do not like to be told the truth, we see this in all aspects of human life today, politics and religion are the most predominant I believe.

The Bible is the ''Truth'' and theres are 2 scriptures that come to mind regarding your question.

Hebrew 4:12
For the word of God is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit, and of joints and [their] marrow, and [is] able to discern thoughts and intentions of [the] heart

John 3:19-21
Now this is the basis for judgment, that the light has come into the world but men have loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were wicked. For he that practices vile things hates the light and does not come to the light, in order that his works may not be reproved. But he that does what is true comes to the light, in order that his works may be made manifest as having been worked in harmony with God.”

"If the truth can't be said lovingly and compassionately, it is best unsaid" - I've head it said.

Love and Truth are the two major pillars of the world's religions, faiths, and spirituality - but you can not sacrifice Love (compassion) just to be truthful. Nor can you sacrifice Truth, just to be loving.

It is a fine line to be balanced upon.

Many christians have banned my accounts, then claim they have the truth, i think it very ironic that they say this, because if I was wrong, they would ignore me, instead of pushing the report abuse button over and over agian.

Ive noticed how so many people get so upset by Jesus' truth! Its amazing! No one is forcing them to believe, but they all seem to think that they just HAVE to say something negative. Were not doing anything to them, but sharing the word of God, which is what were supposed to do!
PS the Word says that God will harden the hearts of some, but it never said that our job would be any easier!

People have a preconceived idea about what is the truth.
When you show them something contrary to that believe they get mad because it means they have to change their mind which they are not going to do.
Everyone believes they are going to heaven. When you show them the bible teaches a paradise earth they are furious.
Because there are hundreds of scriptures that say that it is hard to refruit but they have it in mind that it is burning up and that is it.

if the truth sets you free....you should know that everyone can not be free.....it's not that they don't want it, Most people cant handle it!....People need assurance-we pay for it-- we have to believe it or else we are domed-----lord forbid we have to figure anything out on our own....In reference to Christianity..... The-truth is out there and from watching the debate with Ted on the discovery channel last night nobody wants to hear it. I didn't even watch the program, I caught the debate and I was not impressed with the religious arguments at all.....
