First cousins are a little too close in blood to be married. However, in the biblical days, it was common and approved of by God. I think it would cause too many problems in your family. Would you really be able to withstand your mother's rejection of any children this union would bring? And I don't know how the child would feel about it. If you marry a second or third cousin, it's more acceptable. But first cousins is odd because this is your Aunt or Uncle's son or daughter. It will put every family member in an uncomfortable place. Your mother-in-law would be your Aunt or your father-in-law would be your uncle. Give it very careful thought. Whatever you decide, good luck.

You are right about the social complications, but these mostly exist because of the much more important biological complications. Take a look at the pictures of the kings and queens, princes and princesses, who married within the same family, and you will find large genetic defects and deformations because of an issue called genetic diversity. Marrying different genetic family lines allows the dominant strengths of each line to produce the strongest, healthiest child. Marrying within the same family magnifies or enhances genetic problems by allowing recessive, problematic traits to surface. In layman's terms, the birth of a child by related parents greatly increases the odds of genetic defects, and the related, incurable health issues. People call it sick, and it in a literally health-related way, they are right.

it's a can of worms.

In the old days families used to intermarry - and although it was acceptable it caused a series of other problems - recessive genes of diseases formed causing the birth of many children with serious problems like sickle cell, albino ism, just to name a few.

Genetics FAVORS diversity - so NOT being related strongly helps your chances for having a healthy baby. The fact that two of you are related could bring out long recessive hidden diseases in your family that you may not even be aware of.

and you are right to question how your children will feel if their parents are related. IT sounds strange - and perhaps one day your child will turn around and say that she also wants to have a baby with her cousin. How will you feel then?

Is this your first cousin ? This just isn't right and no matter how much you love him, you just need to let it go and move on.
There are so many issues with this, and bringing a child in to the mix would be a horrible thing to do ! Think about the innocent child, your parents, and quit thinking about yourself !

This is really hard. Is it your first cousin? The closer the relation the better the chance of birth defects. You sound young. I think you should think about this for a while.
