I have a boyfriend who is in jail, and he will be for a while longer. What are some things I can expect when he gets home.

You can expect to get beat.
You can expect him to be carrying some STDs from the other inmates.

Expect that you wont recognize the person that comes out. There will probably be a few (or more) tattoos. Prison is an entirely different world and it takes some time for a person to adjust to being back in the real world. The way things are handled and the way people talk and act are completely different inside than they are outside. I have a few friends that spent some time in prison and they were dramatically changed by the experience. Racism and resorting to violence to resolve a conflict will be VERY prominent whether they were like that before or not. They generally have a hard time trusting even the people closest to them for a long time. If he is in a year or more expect it to take about the same amount of time for him to adjust back to regular life.

No, really, be prepared for anything, and i mean he might still be the same person (let's hope so) but he might have changed a bit. If he's the one you love, listen to him, be supportive and communicate a lot!
