I think that the answer to that question should be obvious: Folks in the country buy to fit their needs. Folks in the city buy to fit their egos.
The average vehicle you'll find on a country road has 4WD and towing cpacity for horses, feed, etc. Why buy a $60K truck that will get banged up and bashed up when you can buy a $35K truck for that purpose?
Whereas in the city, where 4WD and towing aren't needed any more than a milking cow and chickens in the back yard, folks are trying to impress and show off their earnings and will buy a $60K vehicle when a $25K vehicle will serve their purposes.
I don't have a probem with someone buying what they like or buying what they can afford to drive. I just have a problem with folks throwing common sense out the window when it comes to the practicality of their vehicle purchases. Why would anyone who's vehicle will never see snow for more than a few days, never go off-road, never see a dirt or gravel road, and never have more than the spouse, one child, and a dog in it at any given time, buy an Escalade?
