It's ok to be quiet or shy the first time you meet them. Most of the time they will try to make the conversation easier for you. The best thing to do is to just be attentive and caring towards your boyfriend and they will like you. They just want someone who is treating him right. You'll feel more comfortable the next time.

Your boy friend needs to be putting the word out for you to his sister...about how shy you are...and not to mistake it for rudeness...that it just takes a while for you to come out of your shell...and you are just going to have to be more open...and not just tell yourself you can't because you are shy.

Don't worry. They will understand that you are shy. I have dated a very shy girl, and my family immediately fell in love with her and treated her as part of the family.
