Most vets generally worm a puppy for the first time when they get their first vaccination, and again with the second one. You can also bring in a fecal sample for testing to see if she needs to be wormed as well.
As far as heartworm preventative if started before 6 months old you can start this without having a heartworm test done. After 6 months old you'll need to have her test for heartworms before they can give you a preventative. The reason is it takes 6 months for a heartworm to mature, a preventative given in the presence of an adult heartworm can be disastrous for your dog. Microfilaria (baby heartworms) on the other hand are killed by the preventative.
Heartworm preventative is usually given in the form of a once a month chewable.

As one Aussie owner to another, I will tell you that Worming her depends on when she was last wormed, you want to wait about 2 weeks in between wormings. As for heart worming, I am not sure of the exact age, but the vet can go over that with you. My dog was 6 mths when I started him. Hope this helps

Check with your breeder. It should have been wormed at 8 weeks
There is no heart wormer. You can give a dog heart worm preventative at 5 months. I normally worm dogs twice a year unless I see worms in stools. If your pup was not from professional or hobby breeder. You should take it to the vet for its shots and have the vet give it a wormer.

i too have an aussie. we got her wormed at about 12weeks, then about 3 weeks later we got it again. we were told to wait until she was 6months to start on heart worm, i've read that a lot of aussies have problems with the meds, but i dont know if thats true or not. in our area the mesquitos are horrible so its something we HAVE to do.
be well advised that your dog needs LOTS of running time. every day. ours hasnt been getting what she needs lately because of our scheduling and she has destroyed the house over the past few weeks - and she's 8months old now.

I would not attempt this at home. you need to see your Veterinarian, there is a blood test the dog needs before receiving heart worm medicine. The Veterinarian can worm your dog and you know your dog will not be in danger of over medicating him.
