What are the chances of contacting my Governor in helpng out with the issue of the way the government is running the passport situation.
When applying for one they don't tell you everything until its too late and then your stuck with a plane ticket and can't go no where.

they DO tell you everything you need to know to get a passport. also travel agents inform you to get a passport before booking your flight? I dont understand what went wrong. It only takes 4-6 weeks for your passport to arrive.

You can contact your Governor if you what (good luck getting through to him/her) but passports are federally issued not state issued, so there probably isn't too much your Governor can do. You can contact your Senator or Congressman about the problem, but again good luck getting through to them.

I hate to say it, but it's not the passport office's responsibility to tell you everything you need to know when traveling unless it is related to your passport application...length of time it takes to get it back, what you need to apply, costs, and length of validity. Everything mentioned above is also shown on the actual passport application. The passport office employee can take your picture, help you read the application, etc., so what information didn't they tell you?

I don't know what happened, but let's say that you were traveling to a country that required a visa. That's not up to the passport office to pass that information on to you, that should have been your travel agent's responsibility...or even yours (if you made all your arrangements yourself) to know the requirements of the country you plan to visit. Since the visa comes from a totally separate office, (usually you must apply to embassy of the country you plan on visiting), you should have contacted them directly.

When you say, "They don't tell you everything until it's too late," what exactly are you referring to? Did you need a visa also for the particular country? Were you carrying extra liquid items? Part of owning a passport is being responsible enough to know its validity and what travel restrictions are being enforced.

How well do you know your Governor? Is your visit important to US in the way of commerce or image? If you are closer to your congressman or senator that might be a better bet. They might be able to pull a string or two.

Good luck with this one.

Your Governor probably won't be able to help you to much. I'd say contact your congressperson
