I used to be uncomfortable with it, too, but it is a form and it is respect just as you should call a nun sister. You probably also call your doctor "doctor", and not by his first name, and maybe you call your employer boss, and the chef of a restaurant "chef"... simply look at it as a titel. The other person will respect you for it in turn and that is a good feeling!

Of course, you would. Otherwise just what are the options. Hey, you? Mr. Catholic? Hey, Priest? Same reason one would call a Nun, Sister. And if I went to any other church or temple, surely I would use the terms, Pastor, Rabbi, Preacher, or whatever the people there called their church Elders. Not really to many options, I don't think.
It is a simple matter of respect for others. And it is no different then using, Mr. or Miss. Would you go into a college and not refer to the teachers as Professor? Male or Female?
And, anyway it is just a figure of speech and what would you call him otherwise? By his first name? Of course, you could always just him ask him.

Its proper to call him Father its a title he has earned like Doctor. But if you talk with him and explain it makes you uncomfortable. He will most likely allow you to call him something else

'Father' is the priest's title; such as you might call your GP 'doc'. But you don't have to, you could call him Mr So-and-So. But if you are afraid of being totally out of the ordinary, you may want to try calling him 'Father So-and-So'. It takes away some of the intimacy of calling him just 'Father'.

Call NO MAN FATHER as we all have just ONE FATHER, GOD. All it is is a title to them and to be revered by people that think that they are something special. You can call your Dad father as it is a showing of respect, BUT DO NOT do it in the sense of relating to Father God.

I call NO ONE "father except GOD. This is what we are told in the scriptures. The Catholics seem to ignore that and a number of other scriptures that are written.

No .. The only Father is God in heaven . Malachi 2:10 "Have we not all one father ? hath not one God created us ? "
1 Corinthians 8:6 "But unto us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. I know it will feel weird maybe call him "pastor "or " Sir " don't be rude about it .

I am not overly fond of doctors or attorneys for that matter, I don't regularly visit them. But out of respect for their position, I do call them by their professional title.
