Bar work is apparently harder to find. As lots of people do it obviously.

But i've read that if you are willing to do anything.. then it's not that hard to find a job.

And if you register with an agency - it's not that hard to get office work....

Umm check out www.gapyear.com .. might say.. go on the boards and ask people there.

If you want bar work, and there is a fair amount around, you will need a Responsible Servive of Alcohol certificate (RSA). You cannot be employed in an area where alcohol is being served without one (not in NSW anyway, I presume it is the same for the other States). The course for the certificate is usualy one day and you can do it through TAFE colleges. If you are going to work in pubs or clubs and be expected to have anything to do with poker machines, you will need a certificate similar to the RSA but for responsible gambling.

If you get caught working without a visa, and most illegals are caught, you will be imprisoned and then deported. You will not be allowed back into Australia for a long time.

Not as easy as you'd think, not even fruit picking. You'd be hard pressed without a visa since most wages are paid into a bank account and mr taxman wants to see that's everything's above board. I was fortunate to get some cash in hand work whilst I was there there, but only because that was working with friends. You won't enjoy yourself by being rejected everywhere because you don't have a visa, they don't cost that much anyway. You just need prove you have enough money to sustain yourself for a bit (£2,500 when I went).
