I like to cook my roast in a crock-pot. There is really not work involved and clean up is easy. I take my roast and put it in the crock with a can of cream of mushroom soup, carrots, onions, salt, pepper and potatoes. I cook it on low for about 7 or 8 hours.
Some people sear the meat before adding it to the crock. I don't, simply because it is so flavorful without the added step..
Good luck!

I change the way I cook depending upon the time of year.
In summer when the weather is hot and muggy, I would never turn the oven for hours to bake anything !!! In summer I use the crock pot and half the time I use the crock pot OUTSIDE so to not heat the house even a little bit from it while I am running the a/c as well.
In winter I use the oven for it simply puts the heat right back in the house. I never use a oven bag. Baking in plastic scares me. I never use the stove top to cook a roast of any type. Only baking or crock pot for me.

The best way is in the crock pot, although stove top is a close second. If you've got the time let it cook on low all day in a crock, and you'll end up with an amazing meal without much effort, or having to be there every minute while it's cooking. My husband got a little tired of the "standard roast" recipe I made so I decided to use my roast in an inventive recipe of my own, here it is if you'd like to try.
1 beef roast (cuts not too important) 3-4 pounds
4 cans diced green chiles ( these are mild)
4-5 large potatoes, peeled and cut into larger chunks
4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
6 tomatillos, peeled and cut in half
2 medium onions, quartered
4 beef boullion cubes, or 1 pkt of au jus mix
2 Cups water
2 Tsp tyme
2 Tsp oregano
2 Tsp basil
2 Tsp garlic powder
2 Tsp parsley
salt and pepper to taste
1 Pkg thick "gordita" style flour tortillas
Shredded cheese, sour cream and salsa for garnish
Sear roast in hot frying pan with about 3 Tsp oil, until browned and a little crisp on all sides. Then place into crock pot and add boullion, garlic, 1 onion, and all seasonings except parsley and garlic powder on top of roast. Add water, and then add diced green chiles, then potatoes, remaining onion, tomatillos and salt and pepper well. Top with garlic powder, and parsley and cover and cook on low 6 hours. When done, remove veggies, and let roast rest 20 min or so prior to cutting it into small chunks. Then warm tortillas, and add several chunks of roast, potatoes, and tomatillos, top with shredded cheese, sour cream, and salsa, and Viola! Yummo! Easy and tasty! Good Luck!

I cook my roasts in the oven at 350 degrees for 3-4 hours. I put the roast in a good sized pan, salt and pepper the top of the roast, throw a sliced onion in the pan and pour water into the pan until it comes halfway up the side fo the roast. I cover tightly with foil and put it in the oven.
I have had success with roasts in the crockpot and pressure cooker. I personally don't care for oven bags but it may be because my mother in law uses them and her roasts are dry and tasteless - bless her heart.

I like it best cooked in an oven at 350 - 375 . Oven bags are fine . Crock pot works too but takes a long time , however it is very tender . Yum, Yum.
Cook a big one and we'll all come and help eat it .LOL

Roasting in the oven is the best.....wonderful flavor, tender and easy. I place my roast on aluminum foil and place this in a 9X13 in. cake pan. Sprinkle 1 packet of Lipton onion soup mix on top. Add a cup of water around the bottom of roast, tightly seal foil on all sides, place in 350* oven *time depends on size of roast*. Usually takes 2 to 3 hrs. I use the broth for gravy. Any leftovers make delicious sandwiches the next day. (You can also purchase Reynolds foil bags to place your roast in, works perfectly.) Easy as 123 and no clean up, just toss the foil in the trash!!!!

I have always cooked mine in an oven bag I put in some beef or vegetable broth and some potatoes , carrots and onions and a little flower and adobo seasoning. It is so simple and you have the whole meal done in no time . I love crock pots but don't always remember or think of it far enough ahead of time.

I have always had better luck with crock pots, but it depends on the roast. Otherwise, I would go for on the stove.

Very low heat on the stove top, with a lid & seasonings added to enough water to cover, for 4-5 hours, will make any roast tender & wonderful.

For pot roast I like the oven bag method. Cooks faster and uses less energy. For a roast beef I like it baked and use a meat thermometer.
